Kā Tiritiri o te Moana | The Southern Alps

The highest mountain range in Australasia

Runs the length of the south island. Includes glacial ranges and mountain peaks. What is the length. 16 over 10,000 ft with the highest being Aoraki (Mt Cook) at 3,755m (12,316 ft) the highest in Australasia. The crisp peaks reach into the clear blue skies, often veiled around their shoulders by clouds and in winter their ragged sides are capped by snow. They fall into lakes and fjords, rivers and glaciers.

It is from here that New Zealander Edmund Hilary went on to conquer Mt Everest making him and Nepalese Sherpa Tensing Norgay the first people to climb the giant.

Hello!

fromelsewhere/travel.wix.com

In 2015 I traded house keys for hotels, hostels and homestays. I'm on a journey to see the world and make stories about the places I go and the people I meet. My aim is to promote sustainable, ethical travel: tread softly, learn much and make a positive impact. I hope you can join me!
